Syracuse, N.Y. ― The Detroit Pistons cut former Syracuse basketball star Buddy Boeheim on Saturday just two days ahead of the NBA’s Monday deadline for teams to finalize their opening night rosters.

Boeheim had been in Detroit’s preseason training camp on an Exhibit 10 contract. In waiving Boeheim before the start of the regular season, the Pistons avoided a hit to their salary cap.
