Dignity Health Connected Living, a nonprofit organization, has extended its senior nutrition services to Lassen County, enhancing access to nutritious meals for elderly residents. The expansion, supported by funding from the Planning and Service Area 2 Area Agency on Aging (PSA 2 AAA) under the Older Americans Act, aims to promote wellness and independence among seniors through both congregate dining and home-delivered meal programs.
Since the initiative began in October, 3, 870 meals have been provided to seniors in Lassen County. Services are also available in Trinity and Shasta Counties. Joe Ayer, Executive Director of Dignity Health Connected Living, expressed the organization’s commitment to serving the senior community, stating, “We’re deeply honored to expand our services into Lassen County and help ensure that seniors have access to the care and nourishment they deserve.”
In collaboration with the Susanville Assembly of God Church, congregate dining is offered on Mondays and Wednesdays. Seniors must pre-register by calling 1.530.223.6034 due to limited space. While contributions toward meals are welcomed, no senior will be denied service if unable to contribute.
The program emphasizes the importance of social connections for maintaining the health and well-being of seniors. Additionally, Dignity Health is actively seeking community volunteers to assist with meal delivery, support at meal sites, and provide companionship to participants. Teri Gabriel, Executive Director of PSA 2 AAA, highlighted the vital role of volunteers, stating, “Nutrition programs could not succeed without the support of their local volunteers.”
The expansion aims to deliver over 17,000 home-delivered meals and 7,000 congregate meals by June 2025. Local seniors have been informed of the services through notification letters. For more information or to volunteer, individuals can contact 1.530.223.6034.
