District Attorney Thien Ho to tour levee encampment in Sacramento
REMOVED FROM THE CAMPUS AFTER IT HAPPENED. WELL, HAPPENING TODAY, A CLOSER LOOK AT SOME OF THE HEALTH AND SAFETY CONCERNS THAT ARE SURFACING FROM SOME OF THE ENCAMPMENTS ALONG THE WATER IN THIS AREA. THE SACRAMENTO COUNTY DISTRICT ATTORNEY PLANS TO TOUR A STRETCH OF LEVEE TODAY AND TO DISCUSS THE PROBLEM AREAS AS HIS OFFICE IS PUTTING PRESSURE ON THE CITY TO ADDRESS HOMELESSNESS ISSUES. AND THIS TRAIL BORDERS THE AMERICAN RIVER. THERE’S ALSO AN ENCAMPMENT, A VERY LARGE ONE, SET UP IN THIS LOCATION. AND THE SACRAMENTO COUNTY DA TENHO WILL GET A TOUR OF THIS VERY LOCATION FROM THE GROUP, THE RIVER CITY WATERWAY ALLIANCE. NOW, THAT’S A GROUP THAT DESCRIBES ITSELF AS AN ENVIRONMENTAL CONSERVATION ORGANIZATION, DEDICATED TO RESTORING AND PROTECT AREA WATERWAYS. SO THAT GROUP IS SET TO WALK ALONG THE LEVEE. AND ACCORDING TO THE DA’S OFFICE, THEY’LL SHOW THE DA SOME OF THE ENVIRONMENTAL, HEALTH AND SAFETY ISSUES THAT CAN BE CAUSED BY ENCAMPMENTS THAT ARE SET UP ALONG THE LEVEE. THIS TOUR WILL BE PARTLY ON FOOT AND THEN PART OF IT WILL BE DRIVING. AND IT’S ALL HAPPENING AT 10:00 THIS MORNING. NOW, AFTER THE TOUR, THE DA HIMSELF IS SET TO MAKE AN ANNOUNCEMENT. Sacramento County’s district attorney is set to tour a river levee area in Sacramento Tuesday where his office said homeless encampments pose environmental, health, and safety concerns.The River City Waterway Alliance – a group that describes itself as an environmental conservation organization dedicated to restoring and protecting area waterways – will show DA Thien Ho locations along the levee it considers to be most of concern.The group will meet at Acoma Street and Arden Way at 10 a.m. and tour the levee encampments by vehicle and on foot, according to the DA’s office. The DA’s office also said that Ho will make an announcement, although the nature of that announcement wasn’t disclosed.
