DNV issues cybersecurity certificate to Korean automotive technology company MCNEX

DNV, the independent assurance and risk management provider, awarded MCNEX with the Cybersecurity Management System Certification based on the international standard for automotive cybersecurity engineering ‘ISO/SAE 21434’, ensuring their technology built into vehicles meet cybersecurity standards for sale in major countries. This new automotive cybersecurity standard will come into effect in July 2024.

Korean automotive technology company MCNEX specializes in cameras, sensors and software solutions for use in vehicles, including autonomous cars. The certification based on ISO/SAE 21434 is an international standard in the automotive industry that sets forth rigorous cybersecurity processes and requirements across the entire vehicle lifecycle, from design and development to testing and production.

Starting July 2024, this cyber certification becomes mandatory for all mass-produced vehicles in UNECE (UN Economic Commission for Europe) countries, including the United States, Germany, South Korea, and Japan.

The certification demonstrates MCNEX adheres to objective processes for managing cybersecurity across various domains, from executive leadership to design, testing, product development, applications, marketing, quality management, and final inspection teams.

Min Dong-wook, CEO of MCNEX, emphasized the critical role of cybersecurity, stating: “As the importance of in-vehicle software grows, cybersecurity receives the same attention as vehicle functionality and design. The ISO/SAE 21434 standard validates MCNEX’s commitment to maintaining high standards in the field of in-vehicle cybersecurity, solidifying its position as a trusted security partner for our customers”.

MCNEX’s achievement underscores its resilience in addressing future automotive cyber threats, reflecting both its security capabilities and steadfast commitments

Percy Lakdawalla, Regional Manager Asia Pacific, SCPA at DNV added: “By achieving the Cybersecurity Management System certification, it not only demonstrates MCNEX’s commitment to cybersecurity but also reinforces the high standards we uphold in our partnership. This milestone ensures that our customers can trust the safety and security of their vehicles, meeting the stringent requirements of major markets worldwide.”
