KNOXVILLE, Tenn. (WVLT)—Dogwood Arts is bringing its annual Chalk Walk back to Knoxville for the 16th time! The event brings more than 300 artists and teams to downtown Knoxville to turn the city into an “infinite canvas.”
From kindergarteners to professional artists, Dogwood Arts is encouraging anyone and everyone to get involved in showing off their talents. There are 12 competition categories: Elementary (Single & Collaborative), Middle School (Single & Collaborative), High School (Single & Collaborative), College (Single & Collaborative), Adult (Single & Collaborative), Family, and SideWalk of Fame.
Artists will work from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on their squares, which a team of jurors will then judge. Artists are competing for cash prizes and ribbons.
“Chalk Walk is one of our most popular events — and not just for attendees, but in terms of artist participation as well,” said Dogwood Arts Visual Arts Project Manager Emily Curran. “We’re always blown away by how quickly the spots fill up — there is room for right around 150 squares on the footprint and they were almost all filled within just a day or two of putting the application online. This year, we have over 150 artists on the waitlist!”
The event isn’t just for the artists; spectators are also welcome! The Chalk Walk will also include food trucks, a beer garden and outdoor activities for the kids.
The Chalk Walk is set for Saturday, April 6, with an awards ceremony set for 7 p.m. at the Market Square Stage.
