Donald R. Eddy passed away on November 22, 2023. He was born on February 13, 1936.

He was the son of the late Clifford and Verna Eddy of Fairmont, WV. He is preceded in death by his brothers Charles and Jerry and is survived by his sisters Linda (Otis) Kelley and Patty (Ron) Evans. He was married to Martha Eddy for 63 years. Mark (Renee) and Meredith are their children; and a grandson, Jack Donald Eddy “J.D.” (Kimber). He has several nieces and nephews.

During his senior year at West Fairmont High School (’54), he led the state in scoring in basketball (29 points per game). He received a scholarship to continue his career at West Virginia University. This was “golden age” of WVU sports. The football teams had many bowl appearances; many athletes would have stellar careers in the NFL, NBA and Olympics; and during Don’s senior year (’57-’58), the basketball team was ranked #1 for nearly the entire season. He maintained a close connection to WVU athletics.

After graduating, he had a short stint in business in the Akron area, then he and Martha relocated to Wheeling, where Don worked as a sales manager for Centre Foundry. In December of 1972, he was offered ownership of the long established but struggling Saturn Bronze, Inc. With the unpredictable changes in the mining and steel industries in the ’70s and ’80s, he revitalized Saturn as a reliable machine shop for the Valley’s industrial base. He was able to maintain a loyal and talented staff that eventually serviced mines far outside of the Valley. Don owned Saturn Bronze for nearly 25 years. Don proudly sat on the board of directors for the Bank of McMechen, where he was glad to help people obtain the dreams they sought. He worked for many years with the Boy Scouts, assisting to mold character. He was a member of the Symposiarchs.

Don led a life of integrity, rooted in Chrisitan principles, and expected it in return. He told it like it was but remained humble.

There will be a short memorial service at Vance Church on Monday, November 27, 2023 at 11 AM followed by the interment at Greenwood Cemetery.

If one would like to make a contribution, please make it to the charity of your choice in Don’s name.

Arrangements by Kepner Funeral Home, 900 National Road, Wheeling, WV 26003 (304-232-2732).
