FISH CREEK – Gibraltar High School performing arts director Lizbeth Thomas joined a statewide hall of fame for her work in high school theater while her students were winning seven awards in a scholastic theater festival this past weekend.

Thomas was inducted into the Wisconsin Interscholastic Theatre Hall of Fame by the Wisconsin Interscholastic Speech & Dramatic Arts Association during its Wisconsin Interscholastic Theatre Festival from Nov. 16 to 18 at the Weidner Center for the Performing Arts on the University of Wisconsin-Green Bay campus. She becomes one of just 30 school theater directors in Wisconsin, and of 63 inductees total, to join the hall of fame that was formed in 1930.
Thomas is the forensics coach, high school musical director and One-Act Theater director at Gibraltar. In her 20 years directing the One-Act effort, 18 qualified for the state festival, garnering a total of 51 awards. Under Thomas’ direction, the high school’s 2010 musical, “Seussical,” was selected as the Showcase Performance for that year’s state One-Act festival.
Also, the 2023 One-Act troupe earned seven awards at the festival with their performance of “All in the Timing,” a play of three vignettes by David Ives. The awards included the Critics’ Choice, Ensemble, Technical Theatre and Directors awards for a second straight year, and students Italia De La Torre (a senior), Emerson Lecy (sophomore) and Bekka Porter (senior) earned Outstanding Acting awards. Thirty-eight schools took part in the One-Act contest.
