Drain residents discuss healthcare needs at Aviva Health town hall

Tuesday night, North County residents came together to discuss their healthcare needs with Aviva Health.

Currently, Aviva operates nine health care sites around the county, with a focus on bringing services to rural communities.

Residents were able to ask questions to Drain Family Physician Kanani Dilcher, who has been providing healthcare in Drain for the past three years.

Some of the big remarks from those in attendance included getting treatment rooms for patients that can’t leave their home and finding a transportation service to help them get to their doctors appointments.

Aviva staff said that these needs will be looked at and discussed for finding solutions as these are problems the whole county faces.

“I think in Drain and with our clinic, what I’d like to see happen is for it to go full time; which would mean getting another provider out here. I’m only here two days and we don’t have enough access for our patients so that’s my big need right now is another provider to help join me so we can do full time,” said Dilcher.

Right now the Drain clinic operates on a part time schedule Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Jacque Douglas, a local Drain resident said, “I am thoroughly happy with having the health care here so we don’t have to travel. It’s 40 miles to Roseburg, 20 miles to Cottage Grove and it can be a hassle getting there so I really appreciate having a doctor here in Drain.”

Aviva is planning on bringing in a new provider to the area sometime in 2024, allowing more hours for their Drain clinic.

Aviva Health is also looking into having dentistry come to the Drain community, along with a better pharmacy system so residents may have closer access to their prescriptions.
