Driver arrested after $750,000 worth of cocaine found inside vehicle in Halifax County, sheriff’s office says


SCOTLAND NECK, N.C. (WNCN) – One man is facing several drug charges after deputies found seven kilos of cocaine inside his car on Monday, the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office said.

Agents of the Halifax Regional Drug and Gang Task Force conducted a traffic stop at around 3:15 p.m. at a gas station in the Scotland Neck area, according to the sheriff’s office.

“Agents believed narcotics activity was afoot,” according to a news release from the Halifax County Sheriff’s Office. “K9 Rudy was deployed and alerted to the presence of narcotics in the vehicle.”

After searching the vehicle, agents discovered a “fabricated hidden compartment” commonly used by narco-traffickers to conceal drugs while transporting them, locating nearly $750,000 worth of cocaine, the sheriff’s office said.

The driver of the vehicle, identified as Luis Flores, was arrested for:

  • Trafficking in cocaine by possession
  • Trafficking in cocaine by transportation
  • Possession with intent to sell and deliver cocaine
  • Felony possession of cocaine
  • Felony maintaining a vehicle for a controlled substance

Flores was placed in the Halifax County Jail under no bond. He’s set to appear in court on Tuesday.
