It turns out, the trouser-less trend is here to stay, come rain or shine. That is according to Dua Lipa, who pulled off the trend for a rainy day in London this week.
The singer was pictured wearing a head-to-toe look from Ferragamo’s spring/summer 2024 collection, including a black zip-up jacket with a mock turtleneck over a black pair of bodycon micro shorts. She continued the black theme with the bottom half of her outfit, including seasonally appropriate sheer tights, leather knee-high boots with a funky curved heel and pointed toe, and a black leather tote bag fresh off of Prada’s autumn/winter 2024 ready-to-wear runway.
But what really pulled the look together was the unexpected pop of colour from her outerwear: a bright grassy-green leather trench coat, which stood out in perfect complementary contrast to her cherry-cola red hair.
Of course, Lipa has been in her no-pants era for quite some time now. In February, she shared photos of herself to Instagram dressed in a cropped green jacket and shiny black leggings, capping it off with a pair of Coperni’s star-shaped slingback heels. And in January, Lipa performed her single ‘Houdini’ in a black graphic T-shirt and leather hot pants trimmed with ruffles.
“I like having one piece that makes a whole outfit and then you can wear everything else that’s quite simple,” the singer said of her style in a 2017 interview with Harper’s Bazaar. “I’ve always loved dressing up. I like it when things look like you’ve just thrown them on and sometimes the things you really do just throw on look the best. I’ve always been inspired by the ’90s, and I like wearing baggy trousers, and blazers with slip dresses and thigh-high boots or leather jackets, and just a mixture of all those together.”
