Duke has had its fair share of elite basketball recruits, but maybe none as high profile as the nation’s No. 1 prospect, Cooper Flagg, who will be on campus this weekend. There have been four players to commit to the Blue Devils’ program since 2008 who boasted as perfect 100 rating, according to the 247Sports historical records. And if all goes according to plan for Jon Scheyer and company this weekend, they will be in line to land their fifth in Flagg.
The 6-foot-8 prep basketball star is one of the rare high school prospects with such an immediately recognizable skillset to earn the attention of analysts who cover the sport at all levels, and he’s become something of a household name in grassroots, college, and professional circles around the hoops world. He’s the odds-on favorite to be the No. 1 pick in the NBA Draft in 2025, even after reclassifying up a year to join the 2024 class earlier this offseason. Flagg spoke to 247Sports’ Travis Branham about the decision to move up a grade at the Las Vegas Border League this past weekend, where he helped his Florida Eagles team to a tournament championship by posting gaudy numbers.

“I just think physically and mentally I was ready,” he said as to why he made the move to 2024. “I think for my development it was just the best move and just think that all-around I am just ready for that.”
With an accelerated amateur timeline, Flagg also moved up his college decision deadline and is expected to lock in his decision publicly sometime before the end of the fall recruiting period. The week between Nov. 8 and Nov. 15 is the first opportunity for players to sign letters of intent, and it’s fast approaching.
