DURHAM – For the first time since 2016, No. 8 Duke men’s tennis is set to host the Intercollegiate Tennis Association (ITA) Kickoff Weekend inside Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center on Saturday and Sunday.
Fourth-seeded California (0-1) will face third-seeded Middle Tennessee State (3-1) on Saturday at 9 a.m. to kick off the event. The top-seeded Blue Devils (3-0) will then meet up with No. 23 ranked and fourth-seeded NC State (2-1) at 12:30 p.m. for their opening round matchup on Saturday. The losing teams from Saturday will play in a consolation match on Sunday at 9 a.m. The winners from Saturday will play in the championship match on Sunday at 12:30 p.m. The winner of Sunday’s championship match advances to the National Team Indoors which runs Feb. 16-18 in New York City, N.Y.

All home Duke tennis matches are free admission.
General public parking will be available in the blue zone, with the easiest entrance being at the south end of the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center. ADA parking is available in the Card Lot with an accessible entrance available on the north end of the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center. Guests with disabilities will be able to use the elevator indoors to go up to the seating level. The newly renovated addition to the Sheffield Indoor Tennis Center will be accessible via a mulched path on the northwest side of the building. Guests will then be able to use the elevator to go to the seating level.
ITA Kickoff Weekend
This weekend will mark the seventh time Duke has hosted the ITA Kickoff event. The Blue Devils are 16-7 overall in Kickoff Weekend action. Duke will be looking to advance to the ITA National Team Indoors for the first time since 2015.
PLAYING AT HOME
The Blue Devils are 97-25 in Durham over the last 10 years, including a 45-7 mark over the last five seasons. Heading into the weekend, Duke is currently riding an 11-match home winning streak dating back to the 2023 campaign.
HISTORY WITH NC STATE
The Blue Devils and Wolfpack have faced off 109 previous times with Duke leading the all-time series at 105-4. During the teams’ last meeting on April 2, 2023, the Blue Devils secured a 5-2 victory in Durham.
SCOUTING THE WOLFPACK
NC State comes in at No. 23 in the latest ITA rankings and currently holds an 2-1 overall record. The junior-sophomore doubles duo of Joseph Wayand and Martin Borisiouk are ranked 13th, while Wayand and Robin Catry are listed in the singles rankings at No. 52 and No. 120, respectively.
HISTORY WITH CALIFORNIA
It’s been 10 years since the Blue Devils and Bears last faced off with California holding the 7-2 edge on the all-time series. During the last meeting on March 10, 2013, the Bears came out on top, 4-3, at home. The last Blue Devil victory was a 6-1 rout on March 11, 2012.
SCOUTING THE BEARS
California dropped its lone contest of the year, 4-3, to Santa Clara. In fall tournament action, Carl Emil Overbeck posted an 11-6 record, while Jonathan Irwanto and Derrick Chen and Alex Chen all recorded 10-plus victories with 14, 11 and 10, respectively. In doubles action, Irwanto and Timofey Stephanov tallied a 6-2 fall tournament ledger to lead the Bears.
HISTORY WITH MIDDLE TENNESSEE STATE
If the Blue Devils face the Blue Raiders, it will be the fifth all-time meeting, with Duke holding a 3-1 edge on the all-time series. These two programs last faced off on Jan. 27, 2023, in the ITA Kickoff Weekend in Winston-Salem, N.C., where the Blue Raiders registered a 4-2 win.
SCOUTING THE BLUE RAIDERS
Middle Tennessee holds a 3-1 ledger four matches into the year with its lone loss a 4-2 decision at Oklahoma State. Three players find themselves ranked in singles action heading into the weekend. Senio Leo Raquin is ranked No. 25, while sophomores Marcel Kamrowski and Ondrej Horak are listed at No. 47 and No. 105, respectively.
UP NEXT
The Blue Devils hit the road for two matches against Big Ten foes in Illinois and Northwestern. Duke will face the Illini on Friday at 7 p.m. (6 p.m. CT), before traveling to meet up with the Wildcats on Sunday at 1 p.m. (Noon CT).
