Durham residents interested in arts and culture are invited to participate in an Arts Town Hall on May 24, from 2 to 4 p.m. at the Hayti Heritage Center. Rebecca Holmes, manager of the City’s Cultural & Public Art Program, said, “We’re inviting residents to share their stories and dreams to shape a cultural plan that serves all residents,” according to the City of Durham.
Durham is creating a Cultural Roadmap with input from City and County officials, MJR Partners, the Cultural Roadmap Planning Group, the Durham Cultural Advisory Board, and the Creative Engagement Team. A public town hall will be held at the Hayti Heritage Center at 804 Old Fayetteville Street. The event will include free food, children’s craft activities, and opportunities for attendees to share their feedback. Free parking is available, and GoDurham provides fare-free rides to bus stop #5136, as reported by the City of Durham.
Durham’s Cultural & Public Art Program is leading a project as part of an ongoing public engagement effort. The goal is to gather input and information through late 2025, with a final plan to be shared with the community and local officials in spring 2026. Updates and subscription options are available on the program’s website, newsletter, and Instagram (@creativedurham), as stated by the City of Durham.
