Eagle Scout Award presented

Camilla McArthur, 15, of Stuttgart, Germany has earned the Boy Scouts of America Eagle Scout Award. She was recognized in a ceremony held on Nov. 6 in the Panzer Barracks Fire House, a historic facility that once was a German Panzer Division Officers Club.

A member of Troop 324 Girls sponsored by the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 10810, is one of approximately 7 percent of all Scouts who attain the rank of Eagle. Each Eagle Scout must earn 21 merit badges, progress thru seven ranks involving 150+ requirements, show leadership, and successfully complete a community or church related service project to be considered for the rank. Finally, the scout must participate in an hour-long oral Board of Review chaired by adult leaders to receive scouting’s highest rank.

For her culminating project, Camilla chose to organize and direct the installation of 49 trees at the Patch Middle School (located on Patch Barracks US military facility) creating a ‘living-wall.’ This natural barrier will prevent foot traffic from accessing the green space at the front entry way of the school – eliminating a slip hazard and sanitation challenge as well as maintaining the school’s curb appeal to the nearly 20,000 US military community in Stuttgart, Germany. Over 20 scouts and adults participated with over 150 community service hours involved after Camilla raised nearly $1,000 to complete the project including presentations to local outreach organizations.

McArthur was the Senior Patrol Leader of Troop 324 for 12 months, has earned 30 merit badges, and currently serves as the Troop Instructor. She has attended Scouts BSA Summer Camp at Camp Alpine (Kandersteg, Switzerland) as well as the advanced Scouts BSA youth leadership training at Camp Freedom, Germany. Additionally, she was asked to return to Camp Freedom as a senior staff member to run the training in 2024.

McArthur is a Sophomore Honors student at Stuttgart High School, Panzer Kaserne, Germany and is active in Track and Field, Cross Country, and Swimming where she has received multiple Academic and Sports Letters.

McArthur is the daughter of Tim and Tanya McArthur and sibling to Tobin McArthur who is also a fellow Eagle Scout — both are third generation Eagle Scouts. However, she is the first female in the McArthur family to earn this title. Tim McArthur supports United States Africa Command based at Kelley Barracks, Germany as a Department of Defense Army Civilian and is the son of Frank McArthur of Atlantic.

The Scoutmaster for Troop 324 Girls is Lt Col Barry Geise based at Patch Barracks, Germany.
