An annual holiday fundraiser that benefits art guilds and students in the School of Art and Design returns to East Carolina University this week.
The ECU School of Art and Design Holiday Exhibition and Sale begins Thursday night with an opening reception and continues through Saturday in the Wellington B. Gray Gallery in the Jenkins Fine Arts Center on campus.
One-of-a-kind work made by ECU students and faculty members including jewelry, scarves, textiles, screen prints, photography, paintings, prints, ceramics and much more will be for sale.
The opening reception is 5-9 p.m. Thursday. The show continues from noon to 6 p.m. Friday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday. The public is welcome and encouraged to attend. The gallery is in Jenkins Fine Arts Center near the intersection of Fifth and Jarvis streets in Greenville. The center is handicapped accessible.
Cash, check, credit cards and digital transactions will be accepted. Proceeds directly benefit students and faculty. The event is organized by ECU student art guilds and Visual Arts Forum.
Looking ahead, the ECU Chamber Singers, University Chorale and Concert Choir will present Sounds of the Season at 7:30 p.m. Dec. 1 at St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Greenville. The event is free and open to the public.
The same weekend, a handblown glass holiday sale will be open to the public from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Dec. 1 in the College of Fine Arts and Communication office in the Proctor-Yongue House on Fifth Street, across from the Jenkins Fine Arts Center. The sale will be in conjunction with the First Friday Art Walk from 5-8 p.m. The sale continues from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Dec. 2, featuring Merry Tuba Christmas playing on the front porch of the Proctor-Yongue House.
Glass ornaments, flowers, vases, cups, bowls and sculptures made at ECU’s GlasStation will be available for purchase with proceeds supporting the facility and programs. The Merry Tuba Christmas performance starts at noon, featuring traditional holiday songs arranged for a large ensemble of tubas, baritones, euphoniums and sousaphones.
Supporters of the college (Friends of the School of Art and Design, School of Music, School of Theatre and Dance, S. Rudolph Alexander Performing Arts Series) and other donors and friends will have an opportunity to shop first during a VIP event from 4-7 p.m. on Nov. 30.
