Ed O’Neill Explains the True Cause of Disagreement with Co-Star Amanda Bearse

Ed O’Neill revealed the real reason for his disagreement with Married With Children co-star Amanda Bearse.

On Tuesday, O’Neill spoke on Modern Family co-star Jesse Tyler Ferguson’s Dinner’s On Me podcast, where she discussed what may have caused the strained relationship.

“I did a thing on the show that involved Amanda Bearse that I regretted. We didn’t get along, but we did for a long time. We were great friends. And I could guess, I don’t want to speak for her, but it started when we got the cover of TV Guide.,” he went on to say.

Bearse, who portrayed Marcy D’Arcy, and David Garrison, who played Steve Rhoades, were left off the cover since they “were the neighbours” on the series.

O’Neill, 77, said the feud would have began if he hadn’t stood up for Bearse and their other co-stars when they were barred from the cast’s cover shot.

Because they had a rule: only a certain number could be on the cover,” he explained.

“Now they violated that for like two shows, I think it was MASH and Dallas,” he went on to say. “That was an exception, they weren’t doing it for us.”

The actor stated that he was worried of passing up a “big” opportunity because they were “lucky to get it” in their “sixth year in or something, and we were thrilled to get the cover of TV Guide.”

“We were on soundstage, and she said, ‘We expect you to go to [co-creator] Ron Leavitt and tell him this doesn’t work. We’re all on the cover.’”

He regrets not aiding his castmates and would do things differently if he could go back in time.
