Edward T. Strong

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the passing of Edward T. Strong, 84, of Altoona; a beloved husband, father and friend. Ed peacefully departed this world Tuesday at home after a lengthy battle with multiple myeloma. He was surrounded by family. Ed leaves behind a legacy of strength, kindness and unwavering dedication.

He was born in Pittsburgh, the second child of his mother, Lona. He lived a life marked by resilience and a commitment to God and family.

Edward was a devoted husband of 60 years to his wife, Elizabeth Anne (Wilt) Strong. They shared a lifetime of love and companionship.

He is known for his strong ethic and passion while working at Union Tank Car Co., where he retired in 2004 after more than 30 years of service.

Whether in the workplace or with family, he approached life with determination and integrity. His impact reached beyond his immediate circle, touching the lives of colleagues, friends and community members alike.

In his free time, Edward enjoyed watching Penn State Football, participating with the Masonic Lodge 281 and the Jaffa Shrine, reading the newspaper and listening to his grandson’s sermons weekly.

As we mourn Ed’s passing, let us remember the strength he instilled in us and the love he shared. His memory will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing him.

May Edward Strong rest in peace and may his family find solace in the cherished memories they shared with him.

Edward is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Anne (Wilt) Strong; his sisters, Patricia of Vero Beach, Fla., and Dolly of Columbia, Pa.; his children, Brenda (Donald) Williams and Craig (Rachel) Strong; 10 grandchildren; and several great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his mother, Lona Strong; eldest son, Edward Strong II; and his great-granddaughter, Willa Williams.

The family has elected to hold services privately, conducted by the Rev. Matthew Williams at Myers-Somers Funeral Home Inc., 501 Sixth Ave., Altoona.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Lymphoma Society, who helped tremendously in Ed’s battle with cancer.
