EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — Registration is now open for the Salvation Army of El Paso’s sixth annual Music & Arts Conservatory, offering Borderland kids a rare opportunity to immerse themselves in music education at a reduced cost.
The Salvation Army’s four-week summer Music & Arts Conservatory is looking to fill its ranks with students aged 8 to 14, who are interested in honing their musical skills.
According to the Salvation Army, the program is designed to make space for kids who have talent and passion but fall through the cracks of opportunity because their parents can’t afford lessons, instruments and other necessities for playing.
As such, the program is free — save for a $30 registration fee — and includes loaner instruments and curriculum materials for various fine arts classes.
Daily lessons include music theory, brass band, choir and drama, with Fridays reserved for field trips.
“Our program improves children’s confidence and creativity,” said Major Eloisa Estrada, Commanding Officer. “Music education today can lead to success tomorrow.”
The Music & Arts Conservatory will be from June 10 to July 7, from 8:45 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
Students will perform at a graduation concert held on Sunday, July 7, 2024 at The Salvation Army Citadel located at 4900 Hercules Ave.
