
EL PASO, Texas (KFOX14/CBS4) — A 17-year-old El Paso singer-songwriter and a Borderland mental health advocacy organization are teaming up Friday for a benefit concert.
Julian Kalel, in partnership with the National Alliance on Mental Illness (NAMI) El Paso Chapter, on Friday will host “Ending the Silence,” a benefit concert and discussion illuminating mental health awareness.
The evening will feature a performance by Kalel, who will also “lead an intimate discussion during the concert, sharing personal insights on mental health and the healing power of music,” according to a press release.
“Julian Kalel’s commitment to using his music and platform to address mental health is truly inspiring,” said Isidro Torres, Executive Director for NAMI. “He is engaging in open dialogue and actively working to destigmatize mental illness, creating a safe space for others to share their struggles and seek support.”

Monika Acevedo, Co-Vice President of El Paso International Music Foundation, added, “It’s heartening to see artists like Julian using their influence for positive change and making a meaningful impact on mental health awareness.”
El Paso-based alternative synthpop artist, Aztec Caves, will open the event.
There is no entry fee for “Ending the Silence,” however, donations to NAMI El Paso’s programs and initiatives are encouraged.
The event will take place May 24 from 6:00 p.m. to:00 8 p.m. at Star City Studio, 120 W. Castellano Drive, Suite A.
