South Elgin Police Department and AID (Association for Individual Development) are holding a winter clothing and necessities drive through Wednesday, Jan. 31.

A collection bin for clothing, gloves/mittens, gift cards and other items has been placed in the lobby of village hall/police station at 10 N. Water St., according to a news release.

The items will be provided to people who are homeless, families in need and victims of domestic abuse with whom police officers and AID workers come in contact.

Elgin Community College is nearing completion on the renovation of the building that holds its art and design, performing arts and music production classrooms.

Building H/ECC Arts Center will now have two new maker spaces, a podcast recording studio, an expanded music recording area, new rehearsal space, an expanded scene shop, improved audio in the Blizzard Theatre, a four-by-four CNC router and a 3-D printer, according to a news release.

Submission fees are due Wednesday, Jan. 10 for those who want to enter East Dundee Arts Council’s juried Black + White Art Show, scheduled for Feb. 10-16 at Black & Gray Brewing, 311 Barrington Ave.

Submissions must be original works of art in black, white and gray hues. Red accents are permitted but can not amount to more than 25% of the composition, according to a news release.

The fee, payable to East Dundee, is $35 to submit up to five pieces or $55 to submit six to 10 works, with money going toward cash prizes. Artists whose works are selected will be notified by Wednesday, Jan. 24.
