Emily Hampshire came under fire for her Halloween costume choice this year.

The Schitt’s Creek star took to Instagram to share now-deleted images of herself costumed as Johnny Depp for the Halloween festival, alongside a friend dressed as Amber Heard.

Hampshire and her friend appeared to be dressed in the former couple’s clothing from their 2022 trial for domestic violence and slander.

She drew a mustache over her lips that resembled Depp’s, and she wore a suit that the Pirates of the Caribbean star wore during the 2022 trial.

Meanwhile, her companion pretended to be Heard, who was crying.

Following the reaction, the actress issued a statement in which she apologized for her callous decision.

“I want to address what is one of the most thoughtless, insensitive, and ignorant things I’ve ever done,” she wrote. “I stupidly thought it would be funny to dress up as Johnny Depp and Amber Heard for Halloween.” I am profoundly remorseful and ashamed to have released something so heinous into the universe.”

“Domestic abuse is never, ever funny,” she continued. “These are real issues with real people and I REALLY regret my actions. In the future I will do better. I’m so sorry.”
