Emma Raducanu convinces tennis fans of dramatic career change amid injuries

Emma Raducanu has left fans stunned after posting a video of her artwork on Instagram as she prepares to make a return to tennis. The 2021 US Open champion has been out of action since April following her latest injury setback, but has since convinced fans that she could be an artist if she were to ever step away from the sport.

The former world No. 10 has endured a difficult year on the courts. She has only featured in one of the four Grand Slams this season. A 6-3, 7-6 (4) defeat to American tennis sensation Coco Gauff at the Australian Open in January saw her year get off to a difficult start, and the 20-year-old has failed to recover since.

Early exits at Indian Wells, the Miami Open and the Porsche Tennis Grand Prix in Stuttgart followed, which were then met by an injury that required wrist and ankle surgery – seeing her drop to World No. 280 in the process. However, it’s clear that Raducanu has failed to let the setback dampen her spirits during her recovery and has instead taken up painting.

In a recent post on Instagram the former British No. 1 can be seen painting a figure in armour. The impressive end result is reminiscent of a soldier in the famous terracotta army that was discovered in China.

Following the video, fans were quick to compliment the British tennis star on her artistic skills. “Wow! That is impressive,” one user replied to the post.

“Damn Emma, that’s actually very good, seriously impressed! Another string to your bow,” another user added, with a further echoing: “So good, you definitely have another hidden talent!”

Fans also believe that the tennis ace added a small detail of a scar on the figure’s hand, a potential nod to her recent surgery.

Raducanu has been active on social media since her surgery, providing her 2.4 million followers with an insight into her recovery back to the courts. In her latest Instagram post, the tennis ace can be seen back in the gym taking part in various exercises.

The Brit recently revealed that she has set a target for her return to the sport, but confirms she will not be back in action before the WTA Finals in November which end the season.

“Next season I’ll be back,” she told BBC London. “This season all the slams were finished so it was difficult to watch them go by but I was trying to stay in my lane as much as possible and keep focused on my recovery.”
