Emma Stone, who has long been friends with Taylor Swift, appeared to suffer the wrath of Swift fans after making a joke about the singer at the Golden Globes.
In an interview with Variety, Stone, 35, was asked about statements she made backstage after winning best actress in a musical or comedy for the film.
“I definitely won’t make a joke like that again,” Stone was quoted as saying by the publication, “because I saw headlines that really pulled it out of context.”
She then pointed at herself and said, “What a dope.”
The Anti-Hero musician passionately cheered on Stone when she received the award for Poor Things at the 2023 Golden Globes, which took place earlier in January 2024.
At a backstage news conference that night, Stone was asked how she felt about Swift’s reaction to her win.
“What an asshole, am I right?” Stone spoke with her customary deadpan humour. “I’ve known her for almost 20 years. I was very happy she was there and she was also nominated tonight, which was wonderful. And yes, what an a–hole.”
Stone won the Oscar for her role as Bella Baxter in the offbeat comedy, while Swift was a Golden Globe candidate.

Swift and Stone met at the Young Hollywood Awards in 2008 and have been friends ever since.
