Enrollment open for 2024 UI Health Care BUILD program

For faculty and staff who are interested in learning from local experts, the University of Iowa Health Care Office of Health Parity is offering a series of in-person workshops that specifically address health care disparities and how to mitigate them.

The six-week UI Health Care BUILD program will begin Feb. 1. Enrollment is now open for all UI Health Care faculty and staff.

  • Sessions will be held Thursdays, Feb. 1 through March 7.
  • The first session on Feb. 1 will be held from 2:30 to 5 p.m. All other sessions will be held from 3 to 4:30 p.m. in the East Room of UI Hospitals & Clinics.
  • In-person attendance is required during the first two sessions and is strongly encouraged for the remaining four sessions, although participants can complete up to two of those sessions by watching a recording, if necessary.

The program will incorporate the principles and workshops developed by the UI BUILD program—established in 2015 and led by Bria Marcelo—with the addition of topics including:

  • Health care disparities and how to mitigate them
  • Issues faced by individuals with various forms of disabilities in a health care setting
  • Issues that members of the LGBTQ community face within the health care context
  • Culturally responsive health care
  • How to effectively respond to patient-initiated harassment

Register here. Enrollment will be capped at 100 participants.
