The Essex Region Conservation Authority is seeking nominations for this year’s Conservation Awards.
“Past award winners have created forests and monarch habitats, been involved in massive restoration projects, inspired and engaged others to take climate action, and so much more,” said Director of Communications and Outreach Services Danielle Breault Stuebing. “With growing concern about the state of our global environment, recognizing those who are taking local action and making a positive impact is important.”
The awards are presented to individuals or organizations in four categories.
The Youth Award recognizes a student leader in either elementary or secondary school who has undertaken conservation projects or is engaged in addressing the climate crisis.
Volunteers who have put in an outstanding effort by volunteering their time and services for conservation programs and projects are eligible for the Volunteer Award.
The Education Award is for schools, organizations, companies or youth groups that have an education program or climate action project.
The Environmental Achievement Award is for programs and projects that have enhanced the region’s sustainability in a meaningful way. Individuals, organizations, and municipalities can be nominated.
“In our 50th year of conservation, we continue to see remarkable community commitment to environmental actions,” said Breault Stuebing. “Volunteers made an incredible impact through stewardship events like tree planting, restoration activities, and litter pickups.”
Nominations are accepted online, along with a one-page summary of the nominee’s accomplishments.
The authority asks that those making the nomination include the nominee’s name, address, phone number, and the category.
Nominations close on Friday, December 15, and the winners will be announced during the authority’s annual general meeting in January.
