Expanded community center is a big upgrade for Chelsea youth sports

CHELSEA, Ala. (WBRC) – The huge growth in Chelsea means more families and more youth sports. Now, there’s no more driving all over town.

Residents are going to be able to enjoy children’s indoors sports all in one location with an expanded community center.

Chelsea mayor Tony Picklesimer said the expansion was a necessity.

Before, the city had to rent gym space from local schools and churches just to host their rec basketball and volleyball teams, but that’s no longer an issue.

In the backside of the community center is a brand new gymnasium, two racquetball courts, a locker room, and showers with additional meeting space for all of their indoor sports.

This additional space will also be used for homeschooling groups.

The mayor says they have received nothing but positive feedback from the community.

“This building really didn’t get built fast enough, but now we will be able to host a lot more of our own events there at the community center.” Picklesimer said.

The $3.5 million project took about a year to complete and is officially open for residents to enjoy.
