Extending a Helping Hand: Meridian’s Mental Health Fair provides community support and resources

When navigating mental health, the question is where to start looking for help.

Local Mental Health Organizations in Meridian gathered today for a Mental Health Awareness fair to showcase all the resources available to the community.

Traci Gibbs is a psychiatric nurse practitioner and licensed clinical social worker for Comprehensive Health.

She shared that having events like this is imperative and need to be held for those who want to seek help.

“Being an outpatient community service provider is vital to maintaining mental stability and making sure that they remain a part of the community and successful in maintaining quality mental health,” Gibbs said.

Dumont Plaza was filled with professionals on standby to lend a helping hand to anyone who needed it. From Physical Therapists to Psychiatric specialists, each was ready to guide anyone seeking their first steps toward wellness.

“It’s important to listen to your body, address anything that is going on that is stress related, practice holistic care, get out, get some vitamin D, improve your mood, start exercising, and maintain compliance with whatever your plan of care or treatment regimen is,” Gibbs said.

Ricky Nelson was happy to see people in the community stepping out of their comfort zones and exploring the resources available.

“It is so great seeing the community come together, letting people know about mental health awareness and the services that are provided out there and the resources they can use to connect with,” Nelson said.

Local Meridian Mental Health Organizations really stepped it up today showing the community that they are here to help.
