Mason’s School of Art presents HUE, an exhibition showcasing the work and talents of 54 graduating seniors. The exhibit opens on Dec. 4 in spaces within the Art and Design Building at George Mason University’s Fairfax campus and it will remain on view through Dec. 9, Monday through Friday from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. On Dec. 9, the School of Art will also host a closing reception from 6 to 8 p.m. Admission to the HUE exhibition during viewing hours, as well as to the closing reception, is free and open to the general public.
Held twice a year, the Art and Design Senior Show is a visual arts showcase featuring students’ capstone thesis projects toward which they work for three months. In previous years, featured projects have included board games and consumer product design, digital media and full-scale installations, murals, books, and large sculptures. In the upcoming showcase, 54 graduating seniors with degrees in Art and Visual Technology will share their artistic explorations utilizing a variety of mediums, including graphic design, animation, drawing, printmaking, photography, painting, and sculpture. The students themselves chose the title, HUE, a term used in fine arts to identify variations in shades and colors. Similarly, the title HUE conveys the different art forms and fields being represented in the Fall 2023 Art and Design Senior Show.
In preparation for the exhibition, School of Art faculty and students collaborate to design and install the projects on all three levels of the Art and Design Building. Classroom and studio spaces are transformed into galleries that host the graduating seniors’ creations to their best effect. Visitors to HUE will have the opportunity to explore these spaces, where students learn and hone their skills, while experiencing the results of their hard work. Guests will also be able to connect with these emerging artists and recruit them for projects or roles in creative fields.
