Starfield was a title that was highly anticipated by both fans of Bethesda and Xbox fans. That is because it was the first new IP from the studio in 25 long years and an Xbox exclusive. The game was released in 2023 for Xbox and PC and currently has a Metacritic score of 83, labeled as generally favorable.
Since it is a vast title, new things are explored now and then. An Easter Egg referencing Amos, a character from a TV Show titled The Expanse, has been discovered as a Character preset and reported on the game’s official subreddit. Fans loved the revelation after an enthusiastic fan spotted the resemblance and connected the dots, and the post generated a lot of buzz on the subreddit.
A character preset from Starfield is almost a nod to Amos from The Expanse
The Easter Egg, which is in the middle of being prominent and subtle, was discovered when one gamer was having a look at the character presets at the beginning of their playthrough. Since Starfield is a role-playing game, players can create their own custom characters.
A Redditor going by the username u/Azuri-Os quickly noticed the resemblance between the present and a recurring character from The Expanse, Amos Burton. The character in the TV Series was recurring and appeared in six seasons. The fact that Amos Burton is also a character in an Interstellar setting, a master ship mechanic and combatant akin to the protagonist in Starfield, makes the Easter Egg even more amazing to notice.
The facial structure of the character preset that can be noticed in the Reddit post embedded above is very close to Wes Chatham, who played Amos in the hit TV Series. Players quickly engaged with the post after posting the photo and pointing out the resemblance.
These were some of the comments that fellow Redditors put up from Starfield’s subreddit:
Amos is the man. I’m on the third book now and absolutely loved his character on the show!
He is “that guy”
And your entire crew is constantly chiding your maniac behavior, so that checks out
More than just that, sometimes it feels like I’m playing The Expanse video game, which is awesome! They definitely borrowed a lot from the TV show aesthetic.
Parts of the storyline [of Starfield] are near identical from the Rings to artifacts/protomolecule, Belter free navy is clearly crimson fleet. UC is UN. Same names on different characters, like Delgado. References to Deimos, list goes on.
Some other comments also highlighted that there were other Character presets based on The Expanse, including one based on Naomi Nagata, another recurring character appearing in six seasons. Fans who loved Starfield and The Expanse highlighted how they went with the present resembling Burton and named him Timothy, Burton’s former name or Timmy.
Some also shared that their primary weapon is always a shotgun named Amos. There was also some debate around Starfield’s similarities and differences when put against The Expanse. Some Redditors highlighted that they loved the show and wished it was still going on and how the game made them feel like some of the characters in the show.
Starfield is a title with many people getting on the hype train, and people had mixed opinions when it launched. Some loved it, while others found it empty and soundlessly mediocre by the standards of a Bethesda RPG. Not to mention that the fact that it was an Xbox Exclusive played a significant part in fans of both Xbox and PlayStation having very polarised opinions on the title.
This also led to the game being review-bombed on platforms like Metacritic and Steam, with some players openly admitting to creating multiple accounts to do so. Regardless, the game is expansive and does an excellent job at ensuring that it keeps one engrossed if the player clicks with its lore. The game is available to purchase separately and as part of the Game Pass library on PC and Xbox Series X and S.
