Fashion Retail Academy acquires beauty school

The FRA was established in 2005 to support career development within the fashion industry. It focuses on industry-specific skills and careers – from entry level (aged 16 and up) to senior management.

It announced today (19 March) that it has acquired the LCBT in a “significant expansion” of its offer of industry-backed vocational and academic courses.

LCBT was established in 1995, providing courses for students aged 16-19 in areas such as beauty therapy, hair and makeup.

As part of the acquisition, the FRA and LCBT will form a new charity – the Education for Industry (EFI) Group – in a structure including group functions such as finance, operations and marketing, that aims to support both colleges’ future growth and expansion.

The FRA’s CEO, Lee Lucas, will become CEO of EFI Group and both colleges, and LCBT CEO Christianne Cavaliere will depart the business.

The FRA and LCBT will retain their individual identities and programmes and continue to operate independently of one another. “Best practice from both colleges will be integrated to provide students with enhanced learning resources, access to a broader industry  network, and increased opportunities to gain relevant experience,” a statement said.

Lucas added: “This strategic acquisition reflects the dedication of both colleges to offer a comprehensive and cutting edge education that prepares our graduates for success in the dynamic worlds of fashion, retail and beauty.”

The FRA will move to a new campus in Moorgate in September 2024, from its current Tottenham Court Road location  in central London. This will double the footprint of its current building in support of the ambition to double student numbers by 2029.

LCBT will remain in its central London location close to Oxford Circus.
