FARGO, N.D. – The North Dakota State women’s basketball team picked up a 93-73 win over Eastern Michigan after burying a season-high 13 three-pointers on Friday night at Scheels Center.
Heaven Hamling posted her first 20-point performance and second double-double of the season with a season-high 23 points and 10 rebounds. The Grand Rapids, Minn., native shot 5-of-10 from three and added three assists, two steals and one block to her stat line. Elle Evans also tallied 17 points with a team-best five assists.
As a team, the Bison (3-4) shot 50 percent (33-66) from the field and 50 percent (13-26) from three with 10 different players in the scoring column. Hamling (23), Evans (17), Abby Schulte (12), Abby Krzewinski (12) and Miriley Simon (11) all reached double figures in scoring.
The Bison, who connected on nine triples and shot 69.2 percent from three in the first half, got off to a fast start after Hamling and Krzewinski each netted a three to make the score 6-2 at the 9:01 mark of the first quarter. NDSU then put together a 9-2 run to stretch its lead to 15-4 after a layup from Evans with 6:53 on the clock. NDSU led after the first frame, 29-18.
The Bison started the second quarter on a quick 5-0 run to increase the lead to 34-18 after Hamling connected on a fastbreak layup with 9:04 to play in the half. NDSU, who never trailed in the contest, then began to pull way opening up a 20-point advantage, 45-25, following a jumper from Simon at the 5:01 mark. Eastern Michigan wasn’t able to cut the deficit down any further over the final two quarters as NDSU earned the 93-73 victory.
NDSU will continue its homestand hosting Mayville State on Sunday. Tip-off is set for 1:00 p.m., at Scheels Center.
