FDA results in on school strawberries after tragic Hopkins Co. death

HOPKINS CO., Ky. (WFIE) – The Hopkins County Health Department has released new information after a boy passed away after eating strawberries sold at local school fundraisers.

According to the health department, the FDA shared results after testing the strawberries and revealed nothing was wrong with them.

Health officials say if you froze the strawberries properly, they are no longer issuing a caution concerning them.

“There were 443 flats distributed by North and 535 flats distributed by Central; these strawberries were distributed by Juicy Fruit LLC, Southern Grown and Sizemore Farms. We appreciate their concern for public safety,” says the health department. “We were contacted by their Safety Director who was helpful and supportive.”

Late last month, the stepdad of the boy who died was arrested for trafficking fentanyl. You can read more about that by clicking here.
