On Friday afternoon just after 1:30pm, Northwestel said Yellowknifers should prepare to be without fibre internet and television for several hours.

The telecommunications company says the unexpected outage was likely caused by damage to fibre infrastructure.

“Phone and cellular service are working but heaily congested,” said Andrew Anderson, Northwestwel spokesperson.

Northwestel has indicated the disruption is only affecting Yellowknife.
