Celebrate the legacy of a musical trailblazer with an unforgettable evening spotlighting the extraordinary journey of Filipino American musician Larry Ramos. The program kicks off with the premiere screening of Along Comes Larry: The Larry Ramos Story, a powerful documentary by director Rick Quan chronicling Ramos’s rise from Hawaiian ukulele prodigy to Grammy-winning artist and cultural pioneer. As a standout member of the New Christy Minstrels and The Association — two of the most iconic bands of the 1960s — Ramos broke racial barriers and helped reshape the face of American pop music.

Following the film, experience a live performance by The Association as they take the stage with timeless hits including “Never My Love,” “Along Came Mary,” “Cherish,” and “Windy,” celebrating the enduring sound that defined a generation.

All tickets include the film screening and concert. VIP and sponsor tickets include reserved seating for the film screening and concert, paid parking, and entry to the VIP reception with dinner, and a meet-and-greet with The Association.

About the Film

The compelling documentary Along Comes Larry: The Larry Ramos Story traces the life of Hawaii-born Larry Ramos, the first Asian American artist to win a Grammy Award. From his early days as a ukulele prodigy to his groundbreaking role as the sole non-white member of two chart-topping groups, Ramos’s story is one of resilience, talent, and cultural significance. Along Comes Larry offers an intimate look at the man behind the music — one who broke down racial barriers and became a true pioneer for Asian Americans in the music business.

About the Artists

One of the most successful bands to emerge from the 1960s, The Association has sold millions of records, tapes, CDs, and DVDs. They have earned numerous accolades, including a Golden Globe nomination in 1970 for Best Original Song for “Goodbye Columbus.” In 1967, they made history as the first band ever to open a rock festival — the now-legendary Monterey Pop Festival.

The Association has received seven Grammy nominations for hit songs such as “Cherish,” “Windy,” and “Never My Love.” They have also been awarded six gold and three platinum records by the RIAA. Their album The Association Greatest Hits (Warner Bros.) is now certified double platinum and remains one of the longest best-selling albums in the label’s history.

Rick Quan is an Emmy Award-winning broadcaster. He is the first Chinese American television sportscaster in the country and the first Asian American male to be a full-time anchor in San Francisco. In 2023, Rick was inducted into the National Academy of Television Arts and Sciences’ Silver Circle for his more than 25 years of broadcast excellence in the Northern California and Hawaii TV markets. A native Houstonian, Rick has also produced several award-winning documentaries on Asian American pioneers.
