Final JC Fridays of 2024 offers many options to check out local art


Art House Productions quarterly arts festival, JC Fridays, returns for its final edition in 2024 on Friday, Dec. 6, with a showcase of events including visual art exhibitions, music performances, studio tours and more hosted by local businesses, galleries, studios and arts organizations.

Visitors are encouraged to travel from place to place to discover art, enjoy the local scene, and shop affordable local art.

Event hosts include ART150, Art House Gallery, DVORA 175 2nd, Evening Star Studio Gallery, Imago Beauty Group, NJCU’s Lemmerman and Visual Arts galleries, The Oakman, Outliers Gallery, Project Greenville, SMUSH Gallery and Team Wilderness among others.

Here are some of the events to check out this Friday:

Journal Square

Art for Everyone presents an exhibition of Jersey City’s life, “Eclectic Views, Multi Expressions,” at 1 Duncan Ave. from 3 to 6 p.m. The exhibit includes various perspectives and styles by multiple creators with a focus on Jersey City’s energy and culture.

Historic Downtown

Art House Productions will have Tris McCall’s “Songs & Stories” at 345 Marin Blvd. from 8 to 9 p.m. McCall spent time traveling across the country and writing short stories about the cities he visited along with songs to accompany them. During JC Fridays, McCall and his band will perform 12 of these songs along with a collection of short stories that correspond with them.

Bergen-Lafayette

Shop, sip and snack at the Holiday Market at Evening Star Studio from 4 to 7 p.m. The event will include ceramic ornaments, jewelry, wall hangings, housewares and sculpture starting at $10 through $300.

The Heights

Laura and Orlando Cuevas will premiere small works and a reel by Jersey City film maker Luna Alago titled “Dance of Life”, a film that explores the artistic collaboration between the husband-and-wife team. The event takes place at 357 Palisade Ave., from 6 to 9 p.m.

Greenville

Project Greenville, 128 Winfield Ave., will have their annual Winter Wonderland from 5 to 8 p.m. The group art show will feature work inspired by winter, the holidays and the closing of another year. There will also be live music and in-person crafting. Visitors can also bring new or a gently used unwrapped toy for their collection box to be donated to a local Greenville organization that will get them into the hands of neighborhood children.

West Side

Tomorrow Girls Troop, a feminist artist group that has been globally promoting feminism in Japan and East Asia through art, is holding their first solo exhibition on the East Coast, “We Can Do It!,” from 3 to 7 p.m. at the NJCU Visual Arts Gallery at 100 Culver Ave. The exhibition delves into the amendment of sexual assault criminal laws, issues surrounding “comfort women” and transgender rights.
