AUBURN, ME (WFSB) – A manhunt for a mass shooting person of interest in Maine continued Thursday morning.

At least 16 people were killed and 50 other people were hurt in Lewiston, ME.

Authorities have been searching for 40-year-old Robert Card as a person of interest.

A local elementary school in Auburn, ME was designated as a family reunification center as police and medical personnel continued to process the scenes.

People in the area were told to shelter in place as the statewide manhunt for Card continued.

Maine State Police released a surveillance photo of the person of interest. He appeared to be armed with an AR-15-style firearm with a telescopic sight mounted on top. He wore a brown hoodie and blue tactical pants in which the pockets bulged.

According to Maine law enforcement, Card was a trained firearms instructor believed to be in the Army Reserve and he recently reported mental health issues, including hearing voices. He was also recently committed to a mental health facility after threatening to shoot up a National Guard base.

The mass shooting incidents began Wednesday night, first at a local bar and then at a bowling alley about 10 minutes away.

Police in Lewiston said they were still searching for the shooter. Although, they reported that they did find a white car believed to have been involved in a nearby town.

With all of that in mind, police warned people that Card should be considered armed and dangerous.
