Fans have finally seen Ariana Grande and Cynthia Erivo for the first time in the Wicked movie.

In an Instagram post on Sunday, April 16, 2023, director Jon M. Chu showed the first look at the movie.

“You weren’t told the whole story. What happens when you veer off the Yellow Brick Road? FIRST LOOK of the #WickedMovie … currently in production in Oz,” Chu wrote on his IG.

In the dark photos, Erivo is wearing the witch hat and broom that her character, Elphaba, is known for. The actress replied to Chu’s post with several green heart emojis and the words, “It’s been wonderful making magic with you.”

In contrast, Grande wears a stunning pink gown as Glinda and walks up a staircase in the second image.

The movie version of the Tony-winning Broadway musical Wicked, which is based on Gregory Maguire’s 1995 book Wicked: The Life and Times of the Wicked Witch of the West, was first announced in 2016 by Universal.

Wicked is a story that takes place before Dorothy walked down the famous yellow brick road in The Wizard of Oz. It tells what happened before Dorothy did that.

The story will be about how Elphaba, who becomes the Wicked Witch of the West, and Glinda, who is known as the Good Witch, become friends. It also explains how the Wicked Witch got that hat with the pointy top.

Along with Grande and Erivo, the cast also has Jeff Goldblum as the Wizard, Michelle Yeoh as Madame Morrible, Ethan Slater as Boq, and Jonathan Bailey as Fiyero.
