First weekend in June is filled with car shows and community festivals


Cars and festivals dominate this weekend’s slate of events.

The annual Midlands International Auto Show, previously held in the winter, will be taking place Friday through Sunday at CHI Health Center Omaha.

Show hours are 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Friday and Saturday, and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday.

New cars, classic cars, exotics, motorcycles, ATVs, campers and more will be showcased. There also will be face painting, RC Car racing, balloon animals, music and more.

The Nebraska State Patrol will be providing safety demonstrations. Operation Lifesaver will teach about safety around railroad tracks and trains.

All Kids Bike, a nonprofit organization, will be attending the show. The organization is on a mission to teach every child in America how to ride a bike. Kids who attend the show will have the opportunity to learn to ride a balance bike.

Admission to the show is $9 for ages 13 and over; $7 for seniors ages 65 and over, and kids ages 7-12; and free for children 6 and under. Free admission will be offered Friday to all those who served in the military.

In addition to the Midlands International Auto Show, the 5th Annual Omaha Suburban Rotary Car Show also will take place this weekend.

The Suburban Rotary Car Show is set for 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday at 90th Street and Military Road in Omaha.

Everyone is welcome to check out a wide variety sports cars, muscle cars, foreign cars and trucks. Attending the car show is free.

Admission to the Certified Transmission Car Museum with over 100 collector cars is $30. Tickets will be available at the door. The museum will be open from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Concessions will be available.

A 50/50 fundraising raffle and show proceeds will benefit Rotary youth programs.

Taste of Omaha

The 27th Annual Taste of Omaha will take place Friday through Sunday at Heartland of America Park on The RiverFront in Omaha.

Omaha restaurants will cook up a wide variety of foods during the festival. Attendees also can watch cooking demonstrations, browse vendors, and enjoy music and more. All stage shows during the three-day event are free to attend.

Hours for Taste of Omaha are 5 to 11 p.m. Friday, 11 a.m. to 11 p.m. Saturday, and 11 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sunday.

La Vista Days

La Vista’s annual celebration, presented this year by Veridian Credit Union, is planned for Friday and Saturday.

Events on Friday will include a free community concert at 7 p.m. at The Astro Amphitheater in La Vista City Centre featuring the bands Nevermind (local Nirvana tribute) and Classic Journey (national Journey tribute).

Food trucks and activities also will be available in The Nines Plaza, adjacent to the amphitheater. Tickets, required for entry to the amphitheater, are available online at LaVistaDays.org.

Friday’s festivities will conclude with an immersive fireworks and drone show, which will launch in Central Park and can be viewed for The Astro Amphitheater as well as other locations in the area.

On Saturday, the annual parade will travel down Park View Boulevard at 10 a.m. Activities also will include a free community cookout and car show, and three fun zones with games and activities for any age group.

Food trucks and beer gardens will be available for purchasing food and beverages.

Bennington Daze

Bennington also will be hosting a community celebration this weekend. Bennington Daze will begin on Friday and continue through Sunday.

Festivities will include a free community picnic, kids and teen activities, live music, a fireworks display, barbecue contest, pancake feed, farmer’s market, parade, beer garden, performances of “Seussical Jr.,” a street dance, community worship service, kids safety activities, and more.
