Fly By Jing’s Latest Ultra-Crunchy Chili Oil Is So Good That I’m Eating It By the Spoonful

Growing up in a family of chefs with a burning love for heat, I’ve been slathering chili oil on dumplings, stir-fry, and soups since I was in elementary school. Since then, my affection for the delicious spicy-oily-salty-crunchy goodness has only grown. And this love extends far beyond the boundaries of a few select dishes. Now, I’m spreading it on toast, cooking my eggs in it, mixing it into marinara sauce and so much more.

And just when I thought chili crisp couldn’t get any better, Fly By Jing just launched an exciting new chili oil. Chengdu Crunch just launched today, and it’s so good that I think it’ll sell out just as quickly, if not quicker, than the brand’s immensely popular Sichuan Chili Crisp (which sold out five times, by the way).

If your favorite part of chili oil is the crunch (like mine is) then you’ll absolutely love Fly By Jing’s latest creation. Despite only having used Chengdu Crunch for just a day, I’ve already consumed nearly half of the container (and the container is not small — there’s six ounces of it).

Chengdu Crunch takes the core feature of chili oil and its irresistible crunch, and dials it up to the extreme. While a typical chili crunch relies on a mixture of fried garlic and other alliums for that classic crunch, this latest rendition invokes a traditional Chengdu condiment that includes crispy fava beans, yellow split peas, soy beans, pumpkin seeds, sesame and sunflower seeds for a next-level, dare I say, game-changing crunch. The brand’s latest condiment hit shelves today, and as a lucky early-tester, I had the privilege of being among the first to try this exciting release.

This delectable condiment is so good that I’ve not only been putting it on my dishes, I’ve also been eating it by the spoonful as a standalone snack thanks to its delightful crunchy bits. It’s also nut-free and vegan, and while still spicy, offers a more moderate level of heat in comparison to the brand’s original. Sichuan Chili Crisp.

The mixture of seeds and legumes not only provides that most unctuous bite, but also lends itself an even deeper umami flavor that quite frankly, I can’t stop eating. Each meal that I’ve had today has had this delicious spread piled high on it — I ate it on fried eggs, cucumber salad, tteok, and even by the spoonful. And, at this very moment, I’m already planning on loading it on a creamy pasta for what I know will be a life-changing dinner.

While Chengdu Crunch only just literally hit the virtual shelves, I’m confident that just as the brand’s other releases, it’s going to be a bestselling item. In fact, it’s so delicious that I’m already planning on placing another order.
