The Place Located at the Medical Alumni Association Clubhouse on 2 College Road, Moxie is a new modern Mediterranean restaurant by the team behind Siri House in Dempsey. There is complimentary parking on site, and you will see a private entrance into Moxie. The interior of Moxie is stylish, and it feels like a restaurant out of Seminyak in Bali even though the beach is missing. Moxie is opened all day for dinner, weekday lunch and weekend brunch, it is a relatively spacious layout which can accommodate up to 72 guests including two private rooms.
Group Executive Chef Steven Chou heads the kitchen at MOXIE with his previous experiences from Michelin-starred kitchens at Danny Meyer’s The Modern and The Public in New York, as well as a recent position as culinary director of Resorts World Genting.
The Food The cuisine at Moxie is modern Mediterranean-inspired dishes where you can expect sharing plates and platters.
My dinner meal started with the Moxie Dip Platter With Pita where you can choose to have 2,3 or 4 dips as you fancy.
I had it with 3 Dips (S$22) and some of the selection of dips include the likes of Black garlic confit flecked Hummus, brown butter-laced roasted Smashed Kabocha squash and a creamy Whipped Ricotta with pickled sundried tomatoes and herb oil. Continue with Harissa spiced lamb-stuffed courgettes with lashings of Greek yogurt and fresh lime.
The freshly baked pita spots a soft texture and I especially love it with the Hummus.
The next starter I had was the fresh Burrata (S$19) with roasted red beets, charred grapes and pistachio dukkah.
Another refreshing cold starter on the menu is the Grouper Crudo (S$25) with Citron Vinaigrette, Charred Jalapeno Coulis and Pickled Cucumber.
For sides, the Spiced Corn Ribs (S$16) is pretty addictive and best enjoyed with hands. The flavourful corn here is seasoned with paprika, coriander and cumin along with grated feta and chopped herbs.
For meats, the fresh Catch of the Day (Whole Fish 1kg/S$84) is served on the bone and filleted tableside, with a choice of two accompaniments: a classic almond, burnt butter and caper sauce, or a punchy scallion puree with burnt lemon and Pico de Gallo.
I had the Fillet (200g/S$42) with Almonds, Burnt Butter and Capers, a good enough portion for 2-3 to share. Fresh flavour of the fish here and the best part for me are the fried capers!
For carbs, I had Arugula Pesto Orecchiette (S$38) with Rock Shrimp, Lump Crab, Scallop, Pine Nuts and Parmesan. It is a huge portion which fits 3-4 people, where the Orecchiette spots an al dente texture.
Crab and pasta work perfectly and the addition of parmesan shavings enhanced the dish further.
For dessert, the Moxie Millefeuille (S$19) is a namesake signature where you get layers of crisp filo pastry sandwich with strawberries and whipped mascarpone, topped with brown butter kataifi and raspberry dust.
Rants Nothing in particular.
Will I Return Again? This is quite an ideal restaurant for group meals as the menu is designed for sharing. I appreciate that it is modern mediterranean so you will still find some familiar dishes on the menu even if you are not that familiar with mediterranean food per se.
This was an invited tasting, though all opinions expressed are our own.
