Food stamps: February payments to Maryland residents worth up to $1,751 begin today

Maryland’s Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program began distribution of its March payments today.

Roughly 13% of Maryland‘s population, about 772,700 people, rely on food stamps. The amount received varies depending on income and size of the household, but the average amount is $180.

Food stamps are distributed in the state from March 4 to March 23, with the first three letters of a recipient’s household’s last name determining the specific distribution date.

A full list of each last name and its corresponding date can be found here.

To qualify for the Old Line State’s SNAP payments, one’s gross income must be at or below 200% of the federal poverty level. For a single-person household, this is $18,954, while the maximum for a five-person household is $45,682.
