“A work of art features on the cover of this issue. The cape worn by Ida Heiner, which is worthy of a Marvel super-heroïne, was custom-made for Vogue France by Nicolas Ghesquière, artistic director of women’s collections at Louis Vuitton, and the contemporary artist, Philippe Parreno. Though the piece might seem classic, it is, in reality, the result of a complex experimentation of materials, with concrete mosaics crossed with fiber optics – like futuristic tweed. The work by the duo opens up an unprecedented, tangible dialogue between a couturier and an artist – a magnificent, conceptual gift given to us by Nicolas Ghesquière and Philippe Parreno. The duo also explains the intimate link between their two disciplines. Art and fashion are like old lovers who know how to surprise one other, evolving together and starting all over again to build a beautiful love story. We tell this modern tale through the pages of this issue.

Fashion celebrates art. Annie Leibovitz transposes the works of Edward Hopper into grand, stylish frescos, while Alessandro Michele shares his passion for the Italian Renaissance and invites us to his magical palazzo. Art is also a place, and the museum is its haven. The Centre Pompidou, whose surprising and daring architecture has lost none of its charm, serves as both our perfect backdrop and our inspiration. It is always a pleasure to return to the incredible museum to see an exposition or to simply stroll through its transparent passageways and take in the view of Paris. The museum has been enchanting Paris for more than forty years. Now is the time to enjoy it as it will be closing shortly after the Paris Olympic Games for a long restoration project. The beautiful vessel certainly deserved a Vogue cover!
