LONG BEACH, Calif. – Former Long Beach State Men’s Basketball head coach Larry Reynolds has died. Reynolds coached for five seasons at Long Beach State and led the program to the 2006-07 NCAA Tournament.
A standout Division II player at UC Riverside where he was named the CCAA Player of the Year in 1975, Reynolds almost immediately turned to coaching, first as an assistant as his alma mater in Riverside as well as San Francisco before taking his first head coaching job in at Cal State San Bernardino.
Leading the Coyotes to four straight CCAA championships, Reynolds was hired as the 15th head coach of Long Beach State prior to the 2002-23 season. Reynolds led Long Beach State to the NCAA Tournament in 2006-07, posting a 24-8 overall record behind Big West Player of the Year Aaron Nickson and fellow first-team All-Big West selection Kejuan Johnson.
Returning to Division II, Reynolds was hired to lead the Stanislaus State program in 2009, a role that he held until 2017 when he stepped back to co-head coach following a diagnosis of Parkinson’s disease.
