CLINTON, S.C. – Behind four singles wins, the Presbyterian Blue Hose (2-2) rallied for a 4-3 win over the Lander Bearcats, who earned a bid to the 2023 Division II NCAA Tournament, at the Templeton Tennis Courts on Monday afternoon.
DOUBLES
Lander won at number one and two doubles to claim the doubles point. Presbyterian posted the first win of the match with a 6-1 victory by Pedro Cardoso and David Mamalat at number three doubles. Lander evened the doubles matches at one with a 6-2 victory at the number one spot. Lander captured the doubles point after outlasting the Blue Hose’s number two doubles team in a tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-5).
SINGLES
The Blue Hose won four singles matches to claim the overall victory. Lander posted wins at number four and two singles to take a 3-0 lead. Then, the Blue Hose won the remaining four contested matches to claim the overall victory. Mamalat got the Blue Hose on the board with a 6-2, 6-0 win at number six singles over Lander’s Merlin Bellet. Cardoso recorded PC’s second victory with a 6-3, 6-4 win at number five singles over Lander’s Mouad Naoui. Presbyterian’s Javier Matos tied the score at three with a 3-6, 6-1, 6-1 win over Lander’s Regner, who only lost one singles match last season, at number one singles. With the match tied at three, at number three singles Presbyterian’s Denim Yadav rallied for a 4-6, 6-1, 6-3 victory over Lander’s Markus Sorensen to clinch the victory for the Blue Hose.
