Jacob Elordi has replaced Andrew Garfield in Guillermo Del Toro’s Netflix adaptation of Frankenstein.
The Euphoria actor, 26, will co-star with Christoph Waltz, Felix Kammerer, Lars Mikkelsen, David Bradley, and Christian Convery in the ensemble cast.
According to The Hollywood Reporter, Elordi is poised to play the renowned titular monster, replacing Garfield, who fell out due to strike postponements that caused schedule issues.
Del Toro wrote and directed the next adaptation. He’ll also be producing it with J. Miles Dale, who worked on del Toro’s Cabinet of Curiosities for Netflix.
Del Toro has been working on the Frankenstein project for quite some time and has always intended to make a film based on the legendary story. It’s unclear if his version will be set in the past or in the present.
The actor’s casting news comes on the heels of his busy calendar, which included roles in Sofia Coppola’s Priscilla and Emerald Fennell’s Saltburn as Elvis Presley.
Frankenstein will be Del Toro’s second Netflix film, following his Pinocchio adaptation, for which he received the Academy Award for best animated movie at the 2023 ceremony.
