Freestore Food Bank, Reds team up for holiday box meal distribution


A major community collaboration is happening that will help families come together for Thanksgiving.Thursday marks one week out from Thanksgiving Day and as many know, the cost of that meal can be stressful for many families in our region these days.The Reds Youth Academy in Roselawn is hosting a drive-through distribution, in a team up with the Freestore Food Bank.They plan to give out enough holiday meal boxes to serve up to 2,500 families for Thanksgiving.All you need is a photo ID to stop by and pick one up, from 9 a.m. until 3 p.m. Thursday on East Seymour Avenue.But, the need doesn’t stop here on Thursday. Freestore Food Bank spoke with WLWT as they prepared for this holiday season and say they expect to serve 10,000 families this month through its two markets, on Liberty St. and the brand new location on Rosenthal ay off River Road.”At Freestore, if we can provide a little bit of the system that we provide, is not only essential as part of everyday functioning, but can we provide a safe, equitable place for families that at least feel as though we’re treating them with dignity and respect and helping them along their journey to recovery from from whatever fears that they are facing,” said Michael Truitt, Director of Community Partnerships and Programs with Freestore.If you’re unable to make it out Thursday but still need help this year, there will be another Thanksgiving holiday box drive on Tuesday, starting at 4:30 p.m., at the Fifth Third admin building on Kingsley Drive in Madisonville.
