Friday Sports: Seasons on the line in sectional football play


PHILADELPHIA, New York (WWNY) – It’s another football Friday night around the North Country, this time with playoff games in the spotlight.

In the Section 3 Class B playoffs from Philadelphia, 2nd seed Indian River hosted Camden.

In the 1st quarter, Derek Jones breaks off the 29 yard touchdown run: Warriors up 8-0.

Then it was Fred Haynes up the middle for the 4 yard scamper: 16-0 Indian River.

Camden looked to get something going, but Azhari Berroa-Prensa comes up with the big hit.

Ethan Hattori breaks off the long touchdown run to make it 22-0.

Indian River beats Camden 56-14.

In the Section 3 Class C playoffs from Dexter, 2nd seed General Brown met Solvay.

Late in the 1st, the Lions get on the board first when Drew Pauly goes 11 yards for the score: Lions on top 8-0.

In the 2nd quarter, it was Aidan McManaman with the 9 yard touchdown strike to Douglas Jarvie: 14-0 General Brown.

General Brown moves on, beating Solvay 35-6.

In the Section 3 Class C playoffs, Lowville took on Skaneateles.

In the 4th quarter, Lowville was down 6, but Sean Kelly breaks free and goes 80 yards for the touchdown, tying the game.

Skaneateles answered as Torin Bennett pushed his way in from a yard out.

Skaneateles ends the Red Raiders season 26-20.

In the Section 3 Class D playoffs, top seed Sandy Creek hosted Cato Meridian.

In the 4th quarter, the score was 14-8 Sandy Creek when Cato Meridian looked to take the lead, but Finley Stonecyphers pass is batted down by Maddox Palmer on 4th down.

Three plays later, Hudson Hunt keeps it and goes 60 yards for the touchdown: Comets up their lead to 22-8.

Sandy Creek holds on to beat Cato Meridian 22-8.

In the Section 3 Class D playoffs, 2nd seed Beaver River hosted Westmoreland/Oriskany.

The Beavers strike first in the 1st quarter when Landon Rice finds paydirt from a yard out: 8-0 Beaver River.

In the 2nd quarter, Beaver River adds to it’s lead when Derrick Zehr hits Josh Bush for the 6 yard touchdown: 14-0 Beavers.

Beaver River advances with a 30-0 win.

In the Section 10 Class B semifinals, Malone was at top seed OFA.

Madden West pitches to Andrew Loffler who gets an 81-yard escort to the house: 6-0 OFA.

Two drives later, West was on a keeper as he follows blocks to the corner of the end zone.

The extra-point kick is good: 13-0 Blue Devils.

West was on a 17-yard touchdown pass to Lucas Lamella, 20-0.

OFA beats Malone 41-12.

In the Section 10 Class B Football semifinals, it was Potsdam at Massena.

2:48 in the first quarter, it was Matthew Schwartzfigure on a 3 yard run: 6-0 Potsdam.

In the 2nd quarter, it was Gage Charleson on a 3 yard run: 8-6 Raiders.

1:28 left in the half, Connor Eastwood lofts the ball to Garrett Weir 22 yards for the touchdown.

But Potsdam answers 52 seconds later. It was Ian VanWagner to Jack Joyce, 10 yards to tie 14-14 at the half.

In the second half, Schwartzfigure for one yard to give Potsdam the lead.

Then it’s Schwartzfigure on an 11-yard score.

Ian Lynch-Miller adds a five-yard touchdown run of his own as Potsdam upsets Massena 36-14.
