GRAND BLANC — Automotive Technology III students at Grand Blanc High School took on a monumental task this year: reviving a 1969 Camaro show car.

Several years ago, a catastrophic engine failure put the classic muscle car out of commission, and it had been partially disassembled, with parts scattered around the shop.

The students’ goal? To see this beauty hit the road by the end of the school year.

Despite setbacks and challenges, the students remained dedicated to the cause. From tracking down missing parts to fine-tuning the fuel injection system, they tackled every obstacle with enthusiasm.

Recently, they finally turned the key, enthusiastically anticipating the glorious roar of a well-tuned V-8 engine.

Initially, there were sputters and stalls and more than a little disappointment. But, after a quick battery charge, the Camaro sprang to life.

The rumble of the 5.7-liter small block Chevy engine and scent of vintage muscle car exhaust will mark that moment for the team for years to come.

Auto III is mainly made up of graduating seniors, so their dedication to fixing the Camaro during their “spare time,” while also completing all the normal curriculum, shows their passion for the trade.

The Career and Technology Education program includes numerous programs that begin career readiness during high school.

The Auto Technology program operates under the guidance of teacher Jeff Reeves.

“While I’ll miss the energy of this group next year, I eagerly anticipate the next chapter in the Camaro’s journey,” he said.
