SAVANNAH, Ga. (WTOC) – Georgia Southern women’s tennis is coming off a season to remember in 2023. They went 19-6, tying a program record for wins in a season.
The best part about it, is that very little of this year’s team is different. There are five Eagles that are in their final year, and the group is looking to finish some business that they weren’t able to last year.
The Eagles have had a hot start in 2024. They beat Stetson 4 to 3 Saturday, and swept Bethune-Cookman on Sunday. After just two matches, every started now has at least one win.
Sean McCaffrey is thankful for what his group brings to the table this year, especially with it being a group that knows what it takes.
“There’s a level of excitement that everyone is sharing right now. I think everyone is on the same page, we’re all kind of aligned with what we want to do.” said head coach Sean McCaffrey. “Our main goal every year is to find a way to play on the last day of the conference championship. To play for a championship. I think a lot of our success comes from a relentless mentality, the women refusing to give up until the last point is over. That breeds a lot of confidence.”
The Eagles will look to stay unbeaten in 2024 when they head to Jacksonville on Friday, they’ll play North Florida and Elon this weekend.
