Georgia State Representative Tish Naghise Passed Away Due to Recent Undisclosed Illness

A first-term member of the Georgia House of Representatives died Wednesday after being in the hospital for a few days with an illness that was not known.

Letitia “Tish” Naghise’s death was confirmed by Georgia House Democrats, who released the following statement: “It is with profound regret that we inform you of the passing of Representative Tish Naghise. We send our sincere sympathies to her family and loved ones, her constituents, and everyone whose lives she touched with her enthusiasm and generosity throughout her life.”

Rep. Naghise was described as “my good friend and a beloved member of the Democratic Caucus” by House Minority Leader James Beverly, who led condolences from her colleagues. Wednesday, House Republicans also expressed their sorrow in a statement. The Associated Press heard from a former coworker that Rep. Naghise died at Atlanta’s Piedmont Hospital, where she had been for a few days. The cause of death is unknown.

In November, the 59-year-old comfortably defeated her Republican opponent in House District 68, which comprises Atlanta suburbs in southern Fulton and northern Fayette counties.
